Instructions for Installing Motor Pump Unit

PDFDownload Motor Pump Instructions: PDF (73k)
  1. Fit motor with cord gasket in place and stainless steel running thread though holes under bowl making sure motor "pigtail" is in position next to switch and cord wires.

  2. From top of bowl secure pump with three (3) stainless steel nuts. (Make snug but not too tight as you may snap off running thread).

  3. Put a couple of inches of water in bowl; let set for a few minutes and check for leaks.

  4. WIRING
    A. Take both ground wires (green) put on ground post and tighten with nut.
    B. Take one (1) switch wire (black) and one (1) power cord wire (black) secure with wire connectors.
    C. Take remaining three (3) wires (motor, switch, light) connect with wire connectors.
    D. Take remaining three (3) wires (motor light, power cord) connect with wire connectors.

  5. Plug fountain into grounded outlet; turn on switch. Motor pump lights should work now. (DO NOT RUN DRY ANY LONGER THAN NECESSARY).

  6. From top of bowl, install plastic ring (with small center hole) through running thread resting on top of nuts.

  7. Fit impeller on shaft. DO NOT FORCE DOWN ON SHAFT!! Turn on pump; take small tack hammer tap down in center of impeller above shaft while motor is running. Impeller should clear plastic platform by not more than 1/16th of an inch.

  8. Put black rubber gasket through running thread holes pointing tail in opposite direction from light post.

  9. Install pump head with flow tube over impeller resting on black gasket. Put screen in position and plastic ring and large hole over screen through running thread. Take the three (3) stainless steel wing nuts and tighten down. Wing nuts must be fairly tight or pump will not operate efficiently.

  10. Install steel clamps and spacer between light post and flow tube. Tighten.

Important note: Make sure that the motor is not installed using silicone or any other adhesive. Use of silicone or other adhesives may prevent the liquid in the fountain from acting as coolant for the motor by obstructing the amount of motor surface exposed to the liquid. You can prevent leakage with silicone simply by firmly tightening the 8/32" nuts at the bottom of the bowl. We recommend using a nut driver, that can be obtained at almost any hardware store.
